JPG to PNG Converter

Choose a JPG file and save it as a PNG. The conversion runs in your browser, so your photo is not uploaded to a server. PNG is lossless, which makes it a good format to keep editing in or to use where an image program asks for PNG.

Convert an image

Drag and drop an image here

or

JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB. Your image stays in this browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose your JPG

Select a JPG file or drop it onto the box. The tool reads the real format of the file and shows its size in pixels and bytes.

  2. Check the output

PNG is already selected as the output format. Select Convert, then compare the preview and the new file size.

  3. Download the PNG

Download the result. The original file is not changed.

Example: a logo that a form only accepts as PNG

A form rejects logo.jpg because it asks for PNG. Convert the file here and upload logo.png instead. The picture looks the same, but the file is usually larger, because PNG stores every pixel exactly.

What changes when a JPG becomes a PNG

Converting copies the pixels the JPG already contains. It cannot bring back detail that JPG compression removed earlier.

Limits and limitations

  • A PNG made from a JPG is usually larger than the JPG, because PNG does not discard detail.
  • Conversion does not improve quality. Blocky edges and blurring caused by JPG compression stay in the PNG.
  • A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will not have any either. Removing a background needs an image editor.
  • One image is converted at a time, and very large images can fail if the browser runs out of memory.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your image is processed by JavaScript running in your browser and is not sent to a server. The page itself still loads from a web server like any website. This site can load advertising or analytics scripts, but only after you accept them in the cookie notice. They are separate from the tools, which never pass the files or text you work with to them.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. The PNG contains exactly the pixels of the JPG. It stops further quality loss from repeated saving, but it cannot restore detail that was already removed.

Why is the PNG bigger than my JPG?

JPG throws away detail the eye is less likely to notice to make small files. PNG keeps every pixel, so photographs become much larger.

Can I convert PNG back to JPG?

Yes, use the PNG to JPG page. You can pick the background color that replaces any transparent areas.
