How to use it

  1. Enter the sale

Type the item price, the shipping you charge the buyer, what the item cost you to make or buy, the postage you pay and any packaging or other cost.

  2. Check the fee fields

The fields start with example Etsy-style rates. Edit any of them to match the fees shown in your shop's own fee page, or set unused ones to 0.

  3. Read your profit

See profit per sale, margin and return, and which fee takes the biggest share. Change the price and watch the result update.

Example: a $30 item with $5 shipping

Price 30.00 plus 5.00 shipping charged is 35.00 from the buyer. With a 0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee (2.28), 3% payment processing (1.05) and a 0.25 fixed processing amount, fees are 3.78. Item cost 9.00, postage 5.00 and other 1.00 make costs 15.00, so profit is 16.22, a 46.3% margin.

Limits and limitations

  • Etsy changes its fees from time to time, and what you pay depends on your category, country, account type and sales history. The rates pre-filled in this tool are examples to show how the maths works. Always check Etsy's own fee page and edit the fields to match.
  • Payment processing is applied here to price plus shipping. In practice it may also apply to tax the buyer pays, and currency conversion fees are not included.
  • Listing fees are per listing, not per sale, so they are an approximation for items that sell once per listing.
  • The result is an estimate for planning, not accounting, tax or legal advice. Sales tax, VAT, income tax, currency conversion and returns are not included unless you enter them as a cost.
